amp with colour coded connections

Help anyone! My old Technics amplifier has 2 sets of four colur coded connections at the back, each set for each speaker. Please help me find some small bookshelf speakers that will go with this, I am really stuck here.

Can I use any speaker on the market? How do I do the wire connections?

By colour coded, do you mean black and red? Do you have the model number?

I think some Technics systems used to have the crossover in the amplifier rather than the speakers - the speakers had red, black, blue and yellow terminals.

If this is the case with your system, then you will need to use Technics speakers that were designed to be used with your amp.
