Hi everyone,

I am considering upgrading my amplifier and was looking for some advice on where to start in terms of manufacturers and models. My current setup is:

Pc to V-link to V-dac to Nad 320BEE to Quad 11L's

My thinking for some time is that the amp is holding back the potential of the speakers particularly in terms of soundstage which I would prefer to be more open. I do like the general sound from the system but more openness would be the aim.

My budget is around the £300 mark and I was thinking second hand might provide me with what I am looking for. All thoughts welcome.

Thanks.

Denon amplifiers have wide open and explicit sound at the expense of some 'fluidity'. They can sound a little stiffled but its usually only in direct comparison with other amplifiers which happen to be more direct (think Naim for one) but they usually have other short comings or are above your budget. Other than that, I'd have no hesitation to recommend one. You should be able to pick a good condition PMA 1510AE up for your budget. I had one. Hifi Choice made it one of their amplifiers of the year a few short ones back.

Alternatively, look for something like a cyrus 8vs or vs2. More 'fluid' sounding and upgradeable if you feels so inclined.

That'll be my recommendations based on amplifiers I've owned or have. Hope this helps

There is another option but its very lefty though I have mentioned it a few times on here ...

Regards
