amp to amp

Hi.

Totally new here but currenlty developing an OCD for vintage hifi equipment about which i know very little.....

Just recently bought an old solid state Pioneer SA-500 integrated amp which has yet to arrive, and, presuming it works when it gets here, i am thinking of putting it through a power amp to boost it somewhat,,,, i know i can not use the speaker outs but am i right in guessing i can use the 'rec out' sockets? there are 2 of these 1 standard audio and 1 DIN. if yes then can someone recomend an amp for this ??? budget around £200/£250...

i am only thinking of running my old Garrard turntable through this system

not sure on speakers yet so will probably be back here posting soon!!

any advice appreciated :?

You can't use the record out sockets as there would be no means to control the volume level produced by the power amp. You either need to use the Pioneer as it is, or re-think your choice of amp I'm afraid.

What speakers will you be using?

Hi, basically if you are going to do this you need the first amp to have sockets marked "pre out" which the Pioneer doesn't.

ok not to worry, i'll try it on its own in that case which means i'll need speakers to get the best out of it as it is,,,, can be floosatnders or book shelf,,, any suggestions again much appreciated,,,, budget around £150/£200... thanks agin :

Hi again.

learning as i go,,,,,,, i have a chance of swapping the pioneer for an old Yamaha CR - 400 which apparently has pre - outs on the back,,,

checked out the original manual which shows the pre - out used to record onto old reel to reels but with control over the signal,,,

am i getting this right and can these therefore be used to connect to a power amp ??

if yes then back to any recomendations for a decent power amp around £200 ??

still be used to play vinyl from a garrard turntable and considering some Wharfdale rubiance rb 27 floorstanders

early days for me and wouild like to build from this but mainatin the vintage turntable and reciever within the set up..

I'm curious - why are you so desperate to use a power amp?

A power amp isn't necessarily going to add any benefit.

Not so much desparate as intrigued and wanting to experiment a little,,, the reciever on its own would be fine i'm sure but the room is quite large and we regularly have vinyl nights with friends which can end up loud and late so thought the extra boost would be useful....

Then you need high efficiency speakers (90 dB or so). Long ago i had the Pioneer SA 500 (A) which had only 10 Watts. Or you should look for a bigger (secondhand) amp.
