Amp/speaker advice

Hi,

I currently use my Sony DAV X1 (2 channel surround) via Sony TV / PS3 for PS3 gaming / blu ray movies. Whilst I'm happy with the sound I'm thinking about upgrading to an amp / speaker package as surround sound not brilliant. Smallish room, so need compact amp and speakers (5.1), and the less wires the better. Have heard a demo of Denon 1910 with Bose AM10 - quite impressed as nice compact speakers, although AMP size could be a problem.

Any others that would interest me???

cheers

Most compact are the smaller Cambridge receivers - 340R for example. Your dilemma then is just how small you want your speakers to be, and how much you want to spend...

Would probably spend around £500 on amp and £900 on speakers (inc wires). I like the size of the Bose speakers, B&W M25s probably max size I would go.

cheers.

In which case you have your answer right there, speaker-wise - you won't get anything better sounding than the B&Ws without going to big boxes. As for amps, I've lost touch with high-def handling ones, but I've always been a big fan of Yamaha, which'd suggest something like the 763 (if it hasn't been replaced already), though there'll certainly be a couple of Cambridge Audio ones in budget as well.
