Amp on top of cd player

Yes, separate shelves are best, but if you have to stack them, better by far to have the amp on top of the CD player as you suggest.

Perhaps use something like this under the amp feet to increase the space between the two and allow more cooling air to circulate, not to mention keeping any interference from the amp transformer further from the player.

I wouldn't be surprised if some hi-fi specialist dealers aren't selling those at ten quid a go!

I found that if the amp is on the top shelf, it will sound better! could be a placebo effect or just simply because it has plenty of room to breath. Another tip from me is: go to Tesco and buy the granite choping board (less than a tenner) and place it under your CD player....you will be surprise how sound become more focus.
