Hi

Any advice for matching the apexs front pair? I have them on the wall for beefing out my lcd sound and the odd tune via an IDock Mainly for music with occasional movie use.

My old Technics SU-C800U Pre & SE-A1000 Power don't seem to cut it, they sound boxy which certainly was'nt the case when I demoed them.. (with Cyrus gear in the shop)

Would I benefit much from an AV amp and adding a centre speaker?

Any advice would be appreciated

Chris

Thanks David

What AV models would you suggest - bearing in mind I have no interest in 3D at the Mo?

Not until i'm child free! That was why I decided (had) to go with the wall hung option

Technics amplification was never the most open or detailed, so in comparison to something like the Cyrus amplification, there's certainly going to be a noticable difference. If you're only using them in 2 channel mode, go for a hi-fi amplifier, as this will outperform AV receivers that are twice the price and higher. The benefits of an AV receiver would be the little features like audio delay, room EQ, picture switching etc. If you take this route, try the Pioneer or Onkyo AV receivers which are more like the presentation of the Cyrus.

As AV receivers are an almost constantly changing product, I'd just get a 2 channel hi-fi amplifier for now, nothing extravagant, maybe even something secondhand, which has pre-outs. Somethhing like a Rotel or a NAD so that if you do add a sub, you can us the pre-outs to supply it. Further down the road, IF you decide you want the whole AV thing, sel your hi-fi amp at a minimal loss, and then look at the up to date AV receivers at that time. Anybody who isn't about to chane their AV receivers in the next month or two certainly will by the end of the year.
