Amp advice please, for a newbie.

...any opinons of those more knowledgable than myself would be greatly appreciated. Just going about setting up my home cinema

Regarding the best amp to buy: A friend of mine is selling some of his equipment and has offered me his Pioneer VSX-AX4AVI amp. Am I going to get the best out of my ProAc speakers with this? Or should I be looking at something better?

Which ProAcs, what are you driving them with now and how much does he want for it?

It's a Proac response hexa system. I'm not driving them with anything at the moment as I'm literally in the process of putting my whole setup together. My friend has offered me his AX4AVI for £450.

Yes, it'll work well with the ProAc speakers, but I'd be wary of spending that much on a receiver that's two generations old, when there are good alternatives such as the Onkyo TX-SR605 around for £400 or so.

I was also recommended by a friend to look at a Nad amps/receivers. Is there a decent model out that has been given good reviews?
