Is it possible to enjoy good sound and good vision from one a/v receiver? I am toying with the idea of buying the Denon 2310 because I want to enjoy broadcast HD and DVDs in 5.1 and still be able to select phono and listen to my lovely vinyl. I also listen to SACDs and DVD Audio and therefore need an analogue multi channel input. I have a pair of Celestion A3 speakers which have sounded great with my old Sony VA8 ES for over 10 years, and I am worried that I may not like the sound of a new amp/receiver. Any suggestions or comparisons would be most welcome, thanks.

Audition some and hear for yourself.

I have had technics and pioneer stereo amps in the past coupled with speakers from acoustic research, kef and tannoy. Now I own a sony av amp and have to say - honestly, for the money it does me fine for stereo listening, be it from CD (analogue connection), CD via my sony blu ray or even my old 12'' singles via my ancient technics turntable.

Thanks, I am also very happy with the sound from my old Sony, but it has no digital inputs, so I am not able to enjoy 5.1 sound broadcast along with HD pictures so if I want to take advantage of the multi-channel sound I have to invest in a new machine, unfortunately.

you should read "the big question" in this months mag , three av receivers of differing expense/quality are pitted against a £250 stereo amp , all playing stereo music in a blind test , interesting reading ..

Not much comes close to a decent hi fi amp mate i have a pioneer lx71 and its great with sound but rubbish with music , i ended up buying a dedicated amp , cd ,speaker package
