I've just had a fascinating chat with the company that's been restoring the Bond films for Blu-ray - they let slip that they've also restored the original three Indiana Jones movies, so (along with Indy IV) they're all ready for a Blu-ray release. Xmas boxset, I reckon...

Oh, and going back to James Bond - all the movies have been restored (not just the six due on Blu-ray October 31st), so are ready to be released on Blu-ray as MGM/Fox see fit.

Much more in a big blog i'm going to write on this tomorrow. Once i've calmed down a bit.

is there any question as to whether they are all "original" screenings or whether they are UK censored?

That I don't know - but they have all been digitally remastered from the original film (in 8 cases for Bond, the original NEGATIVE!), before any censorship. What the distributors in each territory then release is up to them, I guess....

Excellent. I know Spielberg's a big Blu-Ray fan and wasn't too happy last year about the idea of his films not being available on the format because of the deals HD-DVD had with Paramount and Universal. Now that's all in the past, my Spielberg Blu-Ray collection can commence. Bit worried about Jaws though - just how bad is that shark going to look in Hi-Def. Hope they don't CGI it.
Also, I guess I'm one of the few people who's a fan of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Yes, Lazenby wasn't brilliant (following Connery isn't the easiest of tasks) but it was one of the more experimental Bond films.
Note to George Lucas: I don't want to see any Special Editions style hi-jinx with the Indiana Jones films.

I agree - great script, too. Here's a piece I wrote on OHMSS's location for Sony magazine last year....

That's the 30 series though, which I can't afford (well I could, but I'd be in soooooo much trouble). I refer you also to your downgrading of my old Cambridge to four stars. So actually, it's an anti-me bias.

I'm going to get some sandals and a beard and take my subs to Hifi World.

Good news about INDY but I think maybe I am the only person on here that could not give two hoots about the BOND movies coming to BD. Only BOND movie I have ever liked was CASINO ROYAL which I have as a unrated US BD.

Regarding the Back To The Future films, Bob Gale (co-writer with Zemeckis) recently let slip that the films were being mastered in Hi-Def for a future Blu-Ray release. Unfortunately, he didn't know when but he did say that the transfers were done and the films were ready to go. The first film is one of my favourite films of all time - it's one of the most tightly scripted summer blockbusters ever to squeak out of Hollywood. The sequels weren't too shabby either.
Hopefully Universal will release them sooner rather than later. I certainly hope that they don't wait the two years until the 25th anniversary of the first film being released. The Blu-Ray format needs a shot in the arm from some top-tier catalog releases delivered with the same sort of quality as Blade Runner. Hopefully this will happen with forthcoming releases such as the Godfather films and the Shawshank Redemption.

As I already have all the ultimate edition bond dvd's what difference will there be on blu-ray? Obviously they will be remastered to hd but seeing as the ultimate edition dvd's where all digitally remastered from the original film stock and look superb upscaled through my PS3 I don't think I will be swapping my collection to blu-ray. When the newer bond films are released then I will of course buy blu-ray.

Also noticed on Play that the matrix trilogy is going to be released as well, "coming soon" on 17/11/2008. And Heroes 1&2 boxset at the end of August.

I really wish they would hurry up and release LOTR trilogy, imagine what that would do for blu-ray sales.

Anyone know if The Sopranos will ever be released on Blu-ray ? "Just when I thought I was out...... they pull me back in" Just imagining the Bada Bing in HD
