Aiming speakers, toeing in

I have a 7.1 system and moving o Atmos imminently.

Even though I use Audyssey, I found toeing in my speakers helped unify the sound field into a whole rather than previously being able sometimes to identify which speaker sounds wer coming from.

Only speakers I left pointing directly out of wall were the rears. They are 6 foot high on wall and I wanted a certain enveloping effect from them.

Main question is, when I install my 4 Atmos ceiling speakers do I point them at the main listening position or just leave them firing down out the ceiling?

If your tweeters have adjustable mounts, point them at your main listening position. If you're still planning on using on rather than In-Ceilings aim those at your MLP too. Selfish, but you'll like it best and it tends to focus sound towards the middle of the room rather than the corners.

If your receiver has a multi-position audio setup routine like Audessy on my Marantz, be sure to use all listening positions.

Thanks. I was going to do all of that, but I wanted someone to tell me I was doing it right. Thanks.

I'm no expert in home AV (read: I know next to nothing about anything beyond 2.1 systems), but I would assume the same general rules apply to AV speakers as to hifi systems: if you're sitting at the apex of the triangle or slightly beyond it, toeing in speakers usually focusses the centre of the image to the slight detriment of overall image width. But when you have a central speaker, I didn't think toeing in would be necessary.

Pointed ceiling mounted Atmos speakers to me and it is undergoing Audyssey calibration. So far so good.
