AE1 Classics Amp partner

HI All

I've got a pair of AE1 classics hooked up to an arcam a90 and arcam cd 192. Its been like that for a few years and now i've a niggling feeling i'm not quite getting the most out of my AE's. So i thought i'd put the question out there - does anyone think I am or am not?

I've had a little look around locally and seen a Naim supernait XS ex demo with £300 slashed off the price. I don;t want to fall into the trap of just "buying it becuase its discounted and it'll probably be better than the a90" but having said that it does seem like a good deal. I do have the option of demoing stuff at home, but does anyone have any recommendations for a perfect amp partner for the AE1 classics?

I'm also worried that taking the plunge with cash on an amp i'll have to consider i might have created another bottleneck ith my CD player....but one step at a time, eh?!

Just wondered what everyone / anyone thought.

No idea but I think SimonL/Editor uses these speakers. Ask him what amplifier he uses.

Our US distributors used to pair up the Classics with the Arcam A85 to great effect, I've never heard the 90 to compare though. The Naim's I've heard/used do have a little more grip on the speaker than most other amps - our Supernait has more control than my own AVI Lab series despite the gap in quoted power ratings, I think you'll probably notice an improvement though it's never recommended to spend serious money without an audition!

Hi Rich

The Naim's Supernait will work well with your speakers. At a similar retail value ATC's SIA2-150 MK2 is also worth serious consideration.

If are a happy to consider used amplification then Krell's KAV-400i and the PM-94 from Marantz should also be added to the list.

Btw, excellent speakers. Old is gold
