Advice needed - receiver and 5.1 speakers to match existing stereo system

At home in the UK I have a stereo with Cambridge 840A and KEF iQ7s.
I have recently been posted abroad for a year and want to get a 5.1 surround package for use this year that could also be used with my existing stereo when I get home next year to form a 7.1. I have a Panasonic TX-42PX80B plasma and DMP BD30 Bluray, just need a receiver and speakers.
I've read on other threads that I will need a receiver with pre-outs to fit with my Cambridge amp, so intend to get the new Sony STRDA 2400ES as it appears to be the only one that has them and HD for under £500.
The question really is what speakers? I assume I'd be better off avoiding style ones if I want to fit with the KEFs, so was thinking maybe Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s, Tannoy Mercurys or Quad Lites. Or should I just forget about it and keep the KEFs for stereo and the other lot for video?

Thanks for any help.

Well you could get the KEF iQ3 (or even iQ5 / iQ5SE if you can fit them and have the money) to be your front speakers when you're away, a KEF iQ6c (or iQ2c if on space constraint / budget) for your centre and then either iQ1s or maybe a couple of 3001SE satellites as your rears. Then, when you come back, the iQ7s can become the fronts, the iQ3 / iQ5s can become the rear surrounds and the iQ1s / 3001SEs can become the surround backs, with the centre obviously still being the centre. You'll then have a 7.1 system which will match very nicely with each other.
Or obviously a combination of the above, perhaps with the iQ8ds for surrounds depending on the layout of the room abroad.
