Why keep quiet about it Chebby ?

You've been reinstated.

Yes he has. He asked me to reconsider whether his ban had been merited, which in conjunction with the other moderators I did. It was felt that it had been a misunderstanding and I had been harsh, for which I have apologised.

If it had been a pair of KEFs or Wharfedales then it wouldn't be news.

Of course not, as the manufacturers themselves may not have the track record of the speakers they sell. Small time manufacturers like AVI and EB Acoustics will be able to track their products, especially ADM40 which wouldn't have sold much due to the price, in comparison to the other speakers you're mentioning.

It is remarkable for Ashley to identify the speakers, and whom he sold to. Let a Kef or Wharfedale manufacturer to do that first, then we'll see if it becomes a thread or not.

For the record (before I get accused), I don't own AVI speakers, and don't intend to buy one either. :)

I still don't understand why the buyer didn't immediately return them to AVI when the damage was discovered.

How did this ebay seller 'get in the loop' (which should only consist of AVI - courier - buyer).

What would be the likelihood of a pair of the above being identified beyond a doubt from a listing on an auction site?

Good to see that some things don't change on here, what an inspiration some people are. :?

If you are genuinely interested then a visit to the link in the original post will answer your questions.

Each ADM40 is only made to the customer's individual order. Consequently, this pair had unique features.

They became the property of the carriers when compensation was paid, and the original customer was supplied with a new replacement pair.

It would appear that the damage 'salvage' is being sold by the carriers, or their successive agents, to recover their losses.

As others have stated, the item was damaged in transit by TNT. As it was insured, the insurers paid for the damage. The damaged item then belongs to the insurance company, and they're free to do whatever they want with it.

I believe the courier paid out and kept them, if an insurance company pays out 100% then they take possession, now they or the courier company are trying to sell them. Its not AVI fault. The ebay seller seems to be an auction house.

Not really he must know which 40s don't reach the buyer in good condition. He has said he will repair the speakers as cheaply as possible for whoever buys them.

As I said, this was in comparison to KEF or Wharfedale which chebby gave examples of. Of course, it's easy for Ashley, but try asking KEF or Wharfedale to recognise one of their faulty or damaged speakers.

It was actually the buyer who recognided them from the marks visible in the pictures. He's on HDD.

If you check that thread carefully, Ashley James suspected it first, and then confirmed by the buyer.

Indeed.

I'll take a draw. :)

Who cares? Original buyer is happy, manufacturer is happy, TNT is happy, the insurance company is happy and presumably the clearing company will be happy when someone invests in these bruised items.

That scarifier is still way too expensive, but.

What about the poor fellow who buys a pair of £2000 "nearly new lightly used" speakers and finds out that they don't work properly and have some dents and marks?

They might not be so happy.

You'd have to be a complete imbecile to spend that kind of money on an auction site without inspecting them first...

or alternatively

It may be worth setting them straight on the description to stop someone from Another Forum buying them and them moaning on about how crap ADM40s are when something doesn't work.

So in other words, sod the buyer, let's make sure nobody b-tches about AVI...

And there's that sound again.

Folks, let's not lose sight of the fact that some just noticed a wrong was being done, and didn't think it should be - you know, on account of it being wrong and dishonest.

As previously mentioned, this hardly stands to ruin AVI.

In that case I am a complete imbecile. I spent over £5000 on a pair of used speakers on ebay without inspecting them first.

Well of course you have no comment, as you haven't heard the particular speakers I'm referring to. Despite me offering to bring them round to your house to compare against your ADM40's. Despite me offering to share my room at Scalford in March this year so that we could have compared them at a neutral venue fairly close to your home. Despite me having an open offer for you to bring your speakers to my place in Yorkshire at any time with a bit of notice.

If you or anyone else ever does take me up on my offer to compare my speakers against any speakers that they happen to own they would then be in a position to comment on whether I had been a complete imbecile in buying them or not.

i love it, some one tries to post a useful word of caution about a pair of speakers for sale on eBay that look a bit dodgy and it STILL turns into a b**ch-fest! Talk about petty.....

And with that, I think I'll give up on the WHF forum for good. Goodbye.
