I currently have the sound style Z2 speaker stands on all my B&W's (685's front, 686's rear)

On the 686's I feel they are a bit low and a little behind the arms of my sofa.

Could do with about another 30/40mm extra height.

I have been looking at granite plints to raise them up. Would this be the best idea and would it effect the sound compared to the fronts not being on plinths.

I had a similar issue and in the end went for the Nexus 10 stands for the rears as they are a meter tall. They have a good range in between as well.

Cheers Gents.

I'll get looking. See an ebayer in Ilkley has a few nice plinths for sale round the £100 for the pair.

I got plinths from the local garden centre

Granite paving slabs - were £15 each 600mm x 600mm and 25-30mm thick ...... different sizes are available too.....

Was a very happy bunny - to have saved on kitchen worktop prices AND they are not shiny smooth, so the speaker spikes don't slide around as easily on them !!

I gather some people use granite bread-boards from the supermarket c£10

Try the Apollo AZ10's - not a flatpacked stand, it's all welded together, nice thick square column, and already sandfilled - very stable. Comes with a small top plate for smaller speakers, but Apollo will build them with a bigger top plate if asked for no extra charge.

partington do a 100cm stand for about £120 you could get these and sell your old ones
