I accidentally disabled my Realtek HD Audio Manager.

I cannot get it re-enabled. Device manager says it is working correctly but the task bar icon states that no audio output device is installed.

Any suggestions?

If it XP, then open <control panel> and <sounds and audio devices>

click on the right hand tab <hardware>

highlight the realtek high definition audio and click on <properties>

On this box, click on the left tab <general>

At the bottom should be a drop down menu <device usage> to either enable or disable the hardware - select enable

If this is not an option, then try troubleshoot.

I dont have W7 PC running at the moment, but it's probably similar. Are you sure you have set the soundcard default to whatever it is you want to drive?

Hope this helps....

Hi SteveR750.

I am using windows Vista Ultimate. I have optical connection running to active speakers and USB connection to Dac with interconnect to headphone amp.

panic over, I just found out how to re-enable which was to right click the speaker icon on the task bar then left click playback devices.

Then right click on the USB devive which was listed in the drop down followed by a right click and select "show disabled devices"

That gave me the Realtek icon back from where I could select re-enable.

Holy smoke thats taken my all of 2 hours to sort and I only wanted to listen to John Grant for half an hour!!

Regards
