Hi

Ive just purchased a Abrahamsen v2.0 amp and just wandering when i finished listening of an evening to my music should i turn the amp off or turn the volume down or mute it.

The reason i ask is if you recommend powering it down its a bit awkward as the power button is at the back of the amp but my concern is if turn down the volume it still leaves the display left on and am worried it may burn out the display light.

your imput will help what do you guys do?

Hi Mad One I just mailed you. An LED back light has a 150,000 hour (17 years) life span though it will reduce in brightness over this period. If you have any worries turn it off during long periods of non use. But more than anything enjoy the wonderful sound.

I've got mine hooked up to a remote controllable power socket. The power socket has an remote control receiver attached by a cable and can learn any button from a remote control. That way I can turn the amp on and off via remote control.

The remote controlled socket connects to a four way which also has my DAC, phono stage and Dspeaker unit. So everything is on/off at the flick of a switch!

Abrahamsen recommend leaving the amp on for 2 hours prior to listening to warm up, but that is not always feasible.

2 hour warm up, not before listening! they are just saying it sounds its best after 2 hours as most amp do especially Class A. Its a bit of a ritual thing!

Abrahamsen recommend a service every 5000 hours (208.3 days). That means you need to service it every 7 months if you leave it turned on. *sad*

(can that be right???)

There was me begining to like the sound of these amps ................. until I read this tosh.

Two hours to warm up? Come on its not a valve amp and even Class A amps I have owned in the past never stated anything like that. Servicing evey how long? Again it's not a valve amp and I assume they mean 208 days played in anger, not just switched on. Otherwise you could just switch it off every time (I would purely to save electricity) and it wouldn't neeed servicing for about a decade :)

Strongly suggest the re-write their manual and cut out a few myths (although we all know the Norwegians love a good saga or two :) )

My amp is hot enough to cook a fry-up after 40 minutes.

Well, it is Scandanavian. They get a lot snow there. *blum3*

(I'm off to take the cat for her late night walkies).

I hadn't thought of it that way.

What a splendid idea, forget your Amp / DAC nonsense let's produce an Amp / Radiator!

Cunning plan Norwegian people. Better get my order in now as we do get a bit of snow here in Wales now and again. :)

Your cat back yet PP??.....

As I said utter rubbish a myth, a ritual*dash1**nea*

Agreed *smile*

My old Electrocompaniet EC4.7 and AW 120 DMB amps that were built when Per Abrahamsen was still with Electrocompaniet were left permanently on for almost 13 years , only being turned off for cleaning and changing things around or if I was away for more than a day or two before I had them serviced and upgraded , they were used every day and are now having a well earned rest but they are still both in perfect working order !
