I have been wanting to ask this question for some time after reading all the posts on abrahamsen + Hegel amps on here lately my questions about this 2 amps are this .... What's the bulld quality like .... And how reliable are they ..... And if I wanted one of this amps where do you go in the uk to buy one ....... And are they wouth the money ..... And are they compatible with any CD player . If I got one i think I would go for the Hegel amp as I see a utube video with one of this playing I did put my headphones on and the person recorded the sound from it professionally I no its not the way you should listen to something like this but it was the best I could do but what I heard was very good you could hear all the percussion very clear with the right amount of bass Wight . So would be interesting to see what your thoughts are here .

You've only just bought your PM8005 / SA8005 combo. Have you money to burn ?

Abrahamsen sold by forum member IQ Speakers / boggit (Cheltenham i think ???).

Hegel sold by forum member Rick @ Musicraft in Derby or by iglooaudio in Tunbridge Wells.

Reliability from the A point of view, I've had mime over a year no problem. Nor has any one I have supplied. Mine arrived not working as a daughter board dropped off in shipment, I poped it back on and all good. Issue now cured by A. Are they worth the money, yes to both they are both superb amps. The A benifits from being sold direct without dealer margins (apart from my small one!) The H does have DAC etc. The A Build Quality is stunning, besoke metal remote solid aluminium knobs feet. thick metel cases and 1000Va Nortel Transformer. Solid mains inlet and quality binding posts. As to CD players yes as is any integrated amp. Hope that helps.

Hegel must have shipped tons of their amp since it's won awards all over the place and is European amplifier of the year. There are no reported issue with it. It's solid, weighs around 19kg.

It has a number of extras to the Abe if that's something that may be of use to you. Airplay, DNLA compatible. You can connect it straight to your NAS or PC/Laptop and stream music striaght into the amp and use it's inbuilt DAC. The headphone socket on it is out of this world. I've used headphones for 30 odd years on all sorts of CD players and amps but none of them come anywhere close to the Hegel. The Hegel headphones ability is closer to high quality stand alone headphone amps than it is to normal integrated amps headphone sockets.

Just some of the glowing reviews can be found here.
