i have just bought a panasonc tx32-lxd80 and have connected it to a sony home cinema system and a panasonic video player.

i am thinking of upgrading to a panasonic blue-ray system .i have noticed in your magazine you recommend having a receiver as well.

what advantage does this give? is the picture and sound better and will it connect to the viera link?

In all probability your current system won't be able to accept the HD sound formats available on Blu-ray Disc, so yes as receiver and a set of speakers will give you a major gain in sound quality.

A receiver is basically a combined surround sound decoder/proceesor/amplifier, and yes some of them will work with Viera Link. The Onkyo models have what the company calls RIHD, which is compatible with Viera Link and several other manufacturers' versions of the HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) system.
