Hi,

As most of you know by now I hated the way my system sounded. I decided, since it is my day off, to try different cables ie) speaker cables (QED revelation single wire attached to 4TC kimber Kable jumper cables, Chord Silverscreen Bi-wire, Ecosse ES 4.45 bi-wire. Chord carnival bi-wire) After playing several cd's on each cable, I literally love the Revelation! I do confess that some tracks of 'Led Zeppelin' sounds awful with Robert Plants 'fantastic' high pitched vocals, but then again, for now, I am happy with the overall sound. I must confess that my system reveals bad recordings- is this a good thing or a bad thing? not decided yet. The reason why I say this is because 'Led Zeppelin' have classic tracks that I love to listen to, but don't enjoy as much because of the way it sounds on my hi-fi. I have also thought of maybe trying the Chord Signature speaker cable- see what difference that makes- they offer a home trial, which is a bonus.

I did remove RA inline attenuators- I wanted the excitement back!

If any of you have suggestions on any tweaking that I can do that will improve my sound more, let me know- please, no equipment replacement suggestions 🙂

Thanks for reading.

glad things are looking up for you - never found a system yet thats good with everything and I am now in similar situation to you in which my system does not play poor recordings well and can sound awful at times but most of the music i listen to sounds amazingly smooth and sweet.

The thing is, how can I possibly know if a new recording is good or bad without actually buying the cd? it's virtually impossible, don't you think?

Try hooking up to the Steve Hoffman forum; well respected mastering engineer and there's a ton of good advice on the boards there.

Also, what are you current favourite recordings? Check to see who the mastering engineer is on the disc (if it's listed - not all do) and check out other recordings by him. Some have their own websites and a list of their work. After that, you just have to check. Note that where an original work is remastered, this might or might not be done by the same guy (e.g. with Yes, Eddy Offord did their original discs, but Joe Gastwirt did a lot of the 1994 remasters - luckily I like Joe's stuff!).

Glad you love the revelation - it certainly solidified my system and I know that if there's anything wrong with my sound it's not because of the cabling
