A question to any Arcam owners

I'm not sure whether my ears are playing up on me or not.

I have had my A65+ five years and recently I've been playing lots of 60's and 70's music. After half an hour of listning to the oldies and I spin a modern cd, I've found the older stuff sounds balanced and less reliant on bass definition/weight.

Anyone else experienced a similar thing, or is age catching up on me?

No, it's not your Arcam - Thought to be fair, there's some pretty bass heavy stuff from the mid to late 80s. There is some balanced music out there - just depends who you listen to...

I think that where older music has been recorded with realistic balance across the frequency range, you a) have to turn it up to more and b) need to have an amp with enough welly, but if you do then those older tracks can have plenty of bass weight and impact too. A lot of modern stuff has an undue emphasis placed on the bass (as well as compressing the whole dynamic range) to make it sound exciting on an ipod or the radio, but it doesn't sound as good on a 'proper' hifi.
