I already own a microstreamer (mini dac/headphone amp). I dont know which way to go to listen to music on my pc (spotify or wav cd files): buy a good amp and use the microstreamer as a dac or invest in an integrated amp with dac like the teac AI 501. I also considered a streamer like the naim unitiqute.

i currently use the microstreamer to feed my budget denon amp and the sound is considerably better than with a regular rca out from the pc. But I'm afraid the microstreamer would become the weak link in my system if in invest in more expensive amp and speakers.

Any thought?

My main hifi system comprises a Mac + Amplifier with built-in DAC + Speakers. I have gone down the Apple route but you can do all of this with PC too.

There are several small-ish amplifiers with built in DACs that might work for you:

NuForce DDA-100

NAD D 3020

NAD D 7050

Peachtree decco65

Cyrus 6 DAC

Sansui (don't know the model)

These are all sub £1000, there are more to be had if you want to spend more.

Incidentally, I ended up with neither of those! I now have a Leema Elements Integrated with built in DAC and am very happy with it!

🙂
