A Glitch in the Matrix

My brother and I, witnessed something rather strange.
We're both sitting in our living room. We both heard a noise by the window and turned to look towards it.
Two Swallows popped through the glass, yes the glass and flew into the room. They began flying around the room.
My brother walked over to the closed and locked window, unlocked it, opened it and the Swallows went out.
This is a modern plastic sash window and it was closed and locked. I know it was because I made sure of that yesterday evening before we went out for a while. The window can't be locked unless it's properly shut.
I don't take drugs and I don't drink alcohol on a regular basis.
That's the first time in my life that I witnessed anything outside the ordinary. I don't generally believe anything out of the ordinary, without searching for a rational explanation.
Nevertheless, we both witnessed the two birds literally pop through the window pane, into the room.
Pretty strange huh?

Was it some kind of an apparition? Were the birds real?

I've seen a lot of weird sh*t in my life, that defies logical explanation.
