8k! Most tv isn't even in 1080p and we're still paying a premium for it. Everything should be 1080p now that should be standard.
8k i just don't see the point. In most cases I don't see the point in 4k the film and tv industry just aren't keeping pace.
I have an almost 8 year old Samsung tv everything is pretty much upscaled 1080p content I'm only now just thinking of getting a 4k apple tv as they have been uploading 4k movies to apple for a while now.
For me I just not interested in it, it will just mean new everything to get the most out of it.

I bought an 8K TV was because it was the best TV I demoed. It was also cheap for its size and quality.
And don’t get me on the standards either. Now Samsung have got Adaptive HDR10+, and yet Amazon is the only main HDR 10+ material source.
Maybe Dolby bribed the movie studios and everyone else as Dolby Vision remains the dominant advanced HDR format. Samsung is just being stubborn and obdurate IMO, as much as I love their TVs.
As many have just bought 4K TVs , it will take 8k another 3 years at least to enter the mainstream. And my bet is that Netflix, for example, will give it a pass.
To my mind 8k is a specialist resolution like medium format cameras. Probably only professional creators will need it. Japan excepted maybe.

Heck there isn't even many computers that can actually edit multiple streams of 8k at full res with luts and effects. The Mac Pro can only just about handle it with an afterburner card. Red Raw footage from Red camera has to be converted to a different format as its to intensive for run natively.
The tech just isn't there for anything other than the biggest most expensive Hollywood productions. Sure they're recording in 8k but they will be downscaling for post work.
That may be but I bet my bottom dollar the standards will change before you even get to watch a native 8k film.
I saw it back in the day (2000) when working at a hi fi store, the plasmas where sporting DVI ports for the digital interface, all ready to expect 1080p signals then HDMI happened.

it is pointless buying a 8K TV when there is no content or you can not notice any difference between 4K and a 8K TV if your eyes can not pick this up .

I'm sure there will. There's a marked difference between HD and 4K - I've seen a bit of Star Trek Discovery streamed in 4K from Netflix and trust me my eyes popped out.
I'm sure 8K will do the same, but as I said before it will be a niche resolution - like medium format cameras.
Yes, on some shows it supports Dolby Vision or plain HDR, but not HDR10+. Some shows even sport Dolby Atmos.

I've been gobsmacked by the difference between good 4k/HDR and 1080. It feels like a bigger jump than from DVD to 1080, and I guess it is.

8K sounds great in theory but a whole lot more has to happen before you can use it. Getting 8k stuff to watch for 1. If you connect things to the TV making sure the cable can handle the rez and speed for 2.
The premium you have to pay for 8k is not worth being an early adopter. Once there are reasonable numbers of things you can stream or get from disc or memory drive in 8K maybe then, but why have a screen you will not use at it's best for possibly years. Save your cash stick to 4k or less then when it's realistic to get content for it pay a lower price and have more choice in models.

The main reason i wont get 8k is because I don’t think HD discs or material will upscale well, or am I wrong?
Might be worth considering if I move to Japan 😉
I watch the BBC News channel and BBC4
Crystal Palace transmitter switched off Freeview HD versions of both (to free up TX space for ***king 4G phones).
On BBC1, Regional news programmes are still unable to transmit even in HD.
Channel 4 HD has been completely removed from the (partially licence fee funded) Freesat platform, because Ch4 won't pay the higher fee that Freesat require.
I first saw HDTV demonstrated absolutely ages ago at trade shows.
In 2021, the majority of TV that I watch IS TRANSMITTED ONLY IN 'STANDARD' DEFINITION not even HD.
Will I be buying an 8k TV? 😆🤣😆 probably not.

Same here. I actually bought a 4k monitor and used it on my PC before I bought a 4K TV. I realised that 4K on 28 inches was way to small. So because bigger 4K monitors were so few and far between and very expensive. I actually bought a 4K TV (40 inches) as a cheaper option. This is the very thing I am using to type this reply right now. I get to have 4k Computer screen big enough to read things in native resolution and can flip to TV as well. I doubt I have seen much TV in 4k probably very little but the ability to use 1 screen for both has been good to save space and money.
2 + years later I am looking to get a 48 inch LG 4K OLED TV screen as it can show off my PC better, as it can run at 4K in 120Hz. Right now I run 4K at 30Hz and my PC has the performance to do a lot better.
Yes, it's nice when the screen potential can actually be realised.
(My brother has a 4k drone, its pictures look great on his 4k TV and PC monitor).
