55 inches are the best TVs around that price, there are lots of options. I can't see much difference between 60 and 55 inches to be honest but you might though? I would buy a 55 inch.

About right and you get a Blu-ray player.

My choice would be the VT65 if you are a gamer probably the Samsung's.

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with gel, I think that 55" isn't enough of a difference over your existing 50" panasonic. Go for 60". Some models that don't cost too much are the LG 60PH660V http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/60ph660v/lg-60ph660v . I have seen the 50-inch version of this, and the picture is quite decent for the price, even uncalibrated. This costs £800. Or the Samsung 60PSF5500 at £900 also from Richer Sounds http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ps60f5500/sams-ps60f5500 . A 5-year guarantee costs 10% of the purchase price. These two televisions may also be available from John Lewis, whose prices do include a 5-year guarantee.

You could try this 60" Sharp tv. Though not that well liked in the UK, in Japan, Sharp are a very popular company, and sell very well.

This will be on sale on Boxing day for £899.95 with a free 5 year warranty.

Agreed, I like the Sharp 60 inches. The Black levels are really good too.

I'm tempted too, but we'll have to see how I get on with JL. Haven't rung them to say that my tv's problems still exist, I think I'll leave that for Christmas Eve. >)

Good luck. Black levels are 0.03 on this Sharp:

That is as good as anything going!

The only problems I can find with the Sharp are reliability troubles, but with the free 5 year warranty, they're not a huge issue I guess.

If the OP is still looking, this could be a very good deal.

Edit: Not the one immediately above, that's far too much money.

It seems the manafacturers have moved away fom 60 inch screens in favour of 55 and 65,Now I would love to put a 65 in my lounge but they're just huge and with the new slim bezel the actual unit size of a 55 isnt much different than my old pz8o with its 2 inch plastic bezel so a 55 doesnt seem like an upgrade at all.I will have to visit the shops for and put actual eyes on but keep the ideas coming please
