superb.

and yes there are great passive options to.

There's also the Adam Audio Artist series, particularly the Artist 6 which everyone seems to like. More conventionally there's ATC and they have a reputation that is second to none.

On a serious note, quandaries like the OPs are where this forum falls flat on its a**e. Baring Lyndsay and myself I cant think of any other offers given to peeps to come over for a listen if in the near vicinity. If the OP is close enough he is more than welcome to arrange a meet. Just to get a feel for whats out there in the money pit.

@ the OP. Register on the Wam and lob your original post up on there , I pretty much guarantee* you will get offers of mini bake offs.

Unless you are in a bivvi half way up Annapurna , but hey ye never know.

This is superb advice. By far the best advice so far in this thread.

I am contactable via PM on the Wam as well as a couple of other UK hi-fi forums. There are also lots of regular posters who are active in bake-offs on the Wam that have speakers that would be more suitable for the OP's room and tastes than my speakers. You'll find an amazing amount of hospitality when you contact someone and ask to listen to their system.

Hi CynicaEye,

With that budget and if you chose the Dynaudios X32 why not go with a pre/power combo?

And the TT you should demo the RP8 Dynavector cartridge DV20x2 if you can.

Go active, CE, go active.

Thought it was too good to be true

dont really know what you mean Macspur. it's actually very good advice.

I heavily modded 1210 with Audio Technica stylus into a good quality pro audio mixer and topped off with some Genelecs will do an incredible job.

Fact

Good advice if that's what the OP wants... just concerned it was the precursor for a certain brand to be plugged, as per.

to be fair lots of stuff gets plugged on this forum...... and AlmaaataKZ is a great forum member . He also owns 3 different brands of active speaker none of which are made by the brand you refer to . So maybe , just maybe you've jumped the gun.

Yep, looks like it.

My intention was never to discredit AlmaataKZ, as I have no knowledge of which speakers he owns and as he didn't recommend any particular brand or model and in view of the way in which other similar threads have gone, I wrongly assumed the worst.

I did however, get the impression from the OP, they were just interested in a simple TT, amp and speaker set up, but if they fancy trying actives, that's cool.

The bake-off idea is a really good one. Sometimes I feel like I'd benefit from hearing more of the off-the-beaten-track kit rather than endlessly cycling through mainstream stuff.

I would definitely be up for it. As some people are aware, Matt49 came to me to listen to the Accuphase/Harbeth combo and found it worthwhile.

Absolutely.

Probably the only thing I miss from my days as a dealer was the opportunities to hear lots of different products, makes a huge difference to ypur perception of what makes a good sound and what does not.

Despite it's obvious faults, the old Heathrow shows had plenty of product from outside the normal range, easily the best thing about about it.

I have now thanks, but as I'm not into active gear, it doesn't mean a lot to me. I'll take your word for it though

That corresponds pretty much to my time as a dealer so going to the show was work, not the best time for me.

Earliest show that I can really remember was 1976 (I think), just after Concorde had started commercial flights.

Almost the entire floor was empty with everyone crowding the windows on the airport side as it lined up, then took off on on the north runway, right next to the hotel. The cheering had to be heard to be believed.

Try a Naim/Neat combination. Plays all genres right, and is very entertaining.

Lavardin and JM Reynaud aren't too shabby either........very nice system you have there.
