Thinking of creating a HI-FI / HT setup in a room 4x3.5x3 (LxWxH) with 5 KEFF LS50, apart from money down the drain.. (for the effect speakers-back) will I miss any sonically wise?

IMO. Not if you get the amplification right and use a sub......you might get away with R100s for the rear.

getting away... in relation to performance or lower cost?

What I mean is that the saving in cost (£200) may be worth making in the light of the rears being less important. The R100s, though not sounding exactly the same, may be close enough to maintain a cohesive soundfield.....it is personal though, and other advice should be sought.

I opted for LS50's all round. This was because the best home conemas you'll hear will have exactly the same speakers all round as they'll produce the most consistent and cohesive sound field. Many people do go for something lesser for rear effect, but bear in mind that there can be just as much coming from the rear speakers as the front speakers, so having rear speakers that are just as capable as the fronts is important (for those that feel it is important).

Also, a different speaker, even if it is from the same manufacturer can have different dispersion characteristics and tonal balance.

Not really disagreeing, except that imo. it is more important for the front three match, due to keeping sounds (voices, sound effects etc) which cross from left to right, sounding the same. Though, saying that, if it was me, I would keep them all the same for the sake of £200.....I just like for people to consider different options.

Thanks guys

Sure CnoEvil, I understand and appreciate every comment and though for any reason albeit cost etc. I agree that all speakers should be the same. I was even thinking of puttting floorstanders at the back as well... but well that is TOO much :shame:

I agree that the front three are more important to match. For me, the same speaker all round is the only option for a serious home theatre system, but I appreciate that many people do prefer smaller or cheaper speakers at the rear. I just wanted to make the point that the rear speakers do play an important part too (rear effect and adding depth to the whole soundfield).
