Hey

I have had so many problems with my Sky HD box's, and now the nice guy came out to swap mine out again, and he said... I tell you what, I will get you the new Amstrad HD box, so its a lot smaller and has more HDD than the old ones.

Well it is so small, its almost half the size, so I am over the moon.

Has anyone had any problems with this box?

Thanks

Hello,

I have had this box since thursday. I think you have to give it a few days to warm up. I just watched a couple of sky hd movies and the colours are rich and nice. Details good to. The sound is awesome on my kit, the surround speakers seem louder than on my old Thompson, but the cable i use, tci coral optical makes a big difference in detail to. The only thing is the different sound levels between hd channels and sd channels, the sd channels are a lot quieter. But i can live with that, just turn the volume up hey, its not that difficult, just push a button. All in all, i'm impressed. What do you think then. They have been out for about 3 weeks now.

I have the same problem with the sound levels with this Amstrad box - SD is quieter than HD channels - whereas my previous Samsung HD box was the other way round - which you would expect as Dolby Digital is usualy quieter.

Initially I found hat going into sound setting and switching the Optial output setting from DD to normal and then back to DD restored a higher sound level on SD channels until I switched the box off. But this doesnt seem to work any longer. I have to have my amp pretty loud now for SD channels to be audible.

Its a great looking box, as its so small, very responsive, no delay, also I can now change my TV without holding the remote directly to the TV.

It looks better made as well, and I think I am getting better sound as well in HD.

I didnt know they were that new, but the guy from sky said these are going to be the new HD boxes and no more of this garbage they have been giving away as so many house calls he said for fixing old boxes, and he said they are only going to be using these amstrad boxes as Sky boought Amstrad.

Time will tell though, but things are looking up especially with the extra HDD space

The original Sky+ HD box will become the standard offering for anyone who subscribes to Sky+/Sky+ HD, with the new 1TB Amstrad box being offered as a premium option at £250. Full story here.

What do you mean? the old chuncky boxes are standard?

Why is there 3 different boxes now? One that has 80 hours hdd and mine now at 120 hours, and then the 1tb?

Also I think I fixed the quite issue, go into settings and sound, put both from dolby to mono and mono to stereo I think, then wait a couple seconds, then change it back, it solved it on mine, huge jump in sound.
