I INTEND TO BUY A 50INCH 3D TV,WHICH TECHNOLOGY SHOULD I OPT FOR ?

OPTIONS BEFORE ME ARE : LED-LCD TV, LCD TV AND PLASMA.....TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE PLUS AND MINUSES OF EACH TECHNOLOGY THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LED-LCD AND LCD EXCEPT THE SOURCE OF LIGHT AND PHYSICAL FEATURES...HOWEVER TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE BLACK LEVELS, RESPONSE TIME AND THE COLOUR GRADATIONS OFFERED I FEEL PLASMA SHOULD BE THE BEST BET. I COULD FORTUNATELY ATTEND A DARE TO COMPARE SESSION WHEREBY BLACK TAPES WERE PUT ON THE BRAND NAMES OF TV'S MADE BY MOST REPUTED BRANDS AND IT HAD A MIX OF ALL THE ABOVE TECH, SAME SOURCE WAS PLAYED WITH EQUAL SIGNAL STRENGTH IN ALL TV'S AND THEY WERE ALL PUT ON STANDARD VIEWING MODE.....EVERYONE INCLUDING ME FELT AT THE FIRST SIGHT THE PLASMA WAS ANY TIMES BETTER IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE IN EVERY REGARD, INFACT TO MY GREAT SURPRISE LED-LCD PERFORMED THE WORST!!!!....PLEASE HELP ME FIRM UP MY DECISION......CAUSE THE WAVE CREATED BY CERTAIN MANUFACTURER LIKE SAMSUNG AND SONY IS LED AS FUTURE WHILE THE GROUND REALITY IS SOMETHING ELSE ?

RGDS,

Who hosted this "dare to compare" event? You have to wonder why they did it. And if they calibrated the LED and LCD TV's to GIVE poorer results than plasma. Time was, plasma gave a smoother image for SD content. Don't think that's true any more.

Plasma tellies give off loads of heat and tehrefore use too much energy compared to LED-LCD.

From all the different options read and going by what the majority of what folk say in forums all over the net plasma seems to give the best pictures across the board friend but it looks like you maybe already knew this before posting ... no idea how the different types are with 3D as yet.

sir, the event of dare to compare was organised by a very electronic trade association TATA. all the tv's were connected by a 3d blu ray thru hdmi. fyi

the best tech is the one that looks best to you in your viewing envoirement..

As max said, choose a TV which looks best to you, regardless of technology. Never read too much into superiority of one technology over the other, or for that matter, where the future is heading into. Plasma sales have increased significantly since 3D technology was introduced.

If you're buying a 3D TV, specifically test the 3D performance, as this can vary significantly between models, with issues like 3D crosstalk cropping up in LCD TVs.

I don't understand. Anyway, I have read that plasma TV's do not suffer from ghosting like LCD's do because of their superior refresh rates. So plasma seems the way forward for 3D.

Looks like he's mentioning a programme or an event in India.

yes the lack of crosstalk on plasma seems to be a major bonus at the moment.. LCD's on the other hand have 'brightness' in their camp with 3d pictures looking a lot brigther through the 3d glasses which darken the picture.. tomorrow i'm getting a panasonic 42VT20..

O I hope Ive done the right thing! I have just cancelled my order on the Sony HX903 - because it was taking an age to arrive - and opted for a Philips 9705 which arrives in the morning - O I hope I've done the right thing!!!!

Problem is you can't test a lot of these flagship tv's because the retailers don't have display models so you are totally reliant on forums and reviews - make my day and tell me I've done the right thing - I'll believe anything! Lol

Interesting, i opted for a Samsung UE46C800 because i was fed up with the lead times on the Sony models!! Funny how when i asked the question if that was a concern for the Sony man yesterday on the live forum it was duly ignored!!

I know there was a lot of questions yesterday but this must be a real problem for Sony... that seems not to be resolved..

It wasn't ignored, either duly or otherwise: Eric was snowed under with questions, and has taken away those he couldn't answer live and said he will respond to those he can - we hope to publish these on the site in due course.

But his areas of expertise are the the design and tuning of the products, not the supply chain - we're investigating the possibility of doing a future session on TVs where he will be joined by someone senior from the sale side, who can hopefully answer more 'where's my TV?' and 'does this model replace that one?' type of question.

Nothing funny involved whatsoever.
