3D TV - An obvious drawback perhaps????

First of all apologies if this has been mentioned before but I have not read many of the 3D TV threads.

From my little understanding there are 2 main formats. Which format is which is not too important for this point although you'll see where I am going. On one system the glasses cost £100 pair (ish - last time I saw a price quote) and on the other they are a lot cheaper.

My issue is this. If you have a few mates round to watch the football in glorious 3D then you would need several pairs of glasses. Unless they have the same system as you this could prove very costly with one of the formats.

Foe me it seems logical to have a system where the glasses themselves are quite cheap...........

so far only lg are offering 3dtvs with the cheap glasses , but these tvs cant show full 1080p 3d hd , they use whats called the passive system , similar to the 3d you may have seen in the cinema , using polarizing filters on the tv and polarizing lenses in the glasses ..

the "active" 3dtvs (sony , pana , samsung and also lg) use special glasses that sinc with the tv , the lenses actually open and close for each eye alternatley , the full hd image also alternates on the screen , you see each image with one eye at a time , so , better picture quality , but expensive glasses ..

The need for different types of glasses for different brands of TV is certainly an issue, although there are moves behind the scenes to try and create a single industry-wide standard for active-shutter 3D glasses, which would overcome the problem (and help bring down the cost).

When I spoke to Samsung's engineers last week they made it clear that they'd prefer a universal standard for 3D glasses, but are still waiting for the relevant bodies to make it happen. See News story here.

Aye, a few mates and the cost skyrockets if you want for 3D all. I'll stick to two glasses and stick with 3D if more wants to watch.

But I certainly want the 1080p 3D experience with the active shutter glasses, not the polarized 720p 3D. Sadly, I think the industry realised there are suckers like me out there who pays premium prizes for it.

the boot had 2 doors at the sides . I just wanted to open the doors to let the light in.lol, in the end of the demo they opened the doors and the screen was black.well...more sort of dark grey. the demos looked fine but no black images there, and with all closed no real light geting in...so no idea for the kuro blacks.I just went there to see the blacks . 3D was secondary.
