a few questions re 3d viewing:

1. which is newer Samsung ps50c680 or c6900 and which is best?

2. can I use my 18 month old PS3 as 3d blu ray player instead of purchasing new player and how would I upgrade PS3 if so?

3. can anyone recommend better tv or wait for new 2011 models?

i have the samsung ps50c7000 this is the latest plasma and very thin like led all be it heavyeryes you can use your ps3 you should of had a upgrade to your ps3 via the internet if connected this also makes it 3d ready to play 3d films

The 680 is newer than the 6900, but the later is thinner (37mm against 71mm) nicer aesthetics IMO(carbon grey 6900, black-blue 680) and the 6900 is the higher spec'n TV.

Yes you can use your PS3, although it does not do full HD 3D and HD audio at the same time, it's limited by it's 1.3 HDMI.

If your thinking plasma only, the samsung PS50C7000 adds a black filter for around £200 to the 6900, there is the LG PX990 and the panasonic GT/VT range that's a little more expensive.

Only you can decided whether the new 2011 TVs are worth hanging out for, they will add, lighter Bluetooth glasses, thinner frames and possibly less cross talk, but they will undoubtedly be more expensive.

Every manufacturer we've spoken to is claiming big advances for their second generation of 3D sets - and says they'll sell them at @the same price as last year's models.

For example, Panasonic claims this year's GT30s will offer same spec as last year's VT20 sets, and in fact maybe even better, as they have a better panel and advanced processing....

Let's see when the test models appear! We've had our first 2011 model in - the new Samsung D8000; review due in our April issue, on sale early March.

They my well have the same RRP as 2010 models, but what I meant to say ( not very clearly I concede) is that the 2010 models are now being discounted to
make way for the new ranges, so you will have to in effect spend more money for the newer models.

Absolutely - some great deals to be had.

But if you can spend a little more and get a second-generation set with comparatively step-up performance, it's definitely worth considering, IMO

Hopefully that doesn't include floating blacks!

I'm intrigued to see how this year's Panasonics perform. I wish they'd incorporate more subtle motion processing, though. 200, 400 and 600Hz IFC options would be a welcome addition.

hi markjaspi i have the c7000 plasma out of a matter of interest could you tell me what you have your cell light contrast brightness etc set at as i am still experiementing at the moment to try and get the best possible picture if you dont mind

Sharpness goes down to 0 for blu ray, these settings offer the most realistic colours, hope it helps.
