3D projectors

Can anyone comfirm when we will see the first of the 3D projectors.

I am thinking of buying a JVC HD 750 (which will be my first projector) some time before December, should I buy or hold off on the 3D projectors.

Like all new technology that filters through to the home, it'll take time to iron out all the creases - just look at Bluray! Firstly, the right technology needs to exist at a cost effective level, then you have the problem of the software - it's not like the market is being flooded with 3D software, which probably won't happen until there's hardware that can play said films.

I can appreciate it might end up being quite popular when it hits the right price point, but for serious film fanatics it's a bit of a gimmick. I'd rather watch well mastered/produced Bluray movies than 3D movies, which I think will have some appeal with kids movies. Until there's no glasses involved, and the technology can be done properly, I personally am not interested.

I've been shooting stereoscopic 3D video for about 8 years now, so the advent of 3d enabled projectors can't come sooner!!

Optoma have said they intend to have the HD65 3D enabled projector out by Christmas, they also say existing HD65s can be firmware upgraded to 3D for no cost. Benq hope to have 50% of all their projectors 3D enabled by next year. Viewsonic have three 3D enabled XGA projectors currently on the market, though they don't have HDMI inputs, just VGA S-VHS etc.

Until they come up with a 3D Blu Ray standard for 3D distribution, (Panasonic have a 3D BD authoring lab in LA), I thing 3D gaming will probably be the main use for now. Though don't forget SKY have announced they'll be launching a 3D channel next year so that's something to consider.

I'd go for the 3D projector, but then I have 100s of hours of 3D footage already to view, you may not.

Will the JVC DLA-HD 750 have the facility to be up graded to 3D either via a firmware upgrade or an add on piece of kit.

Looking at the spec, I'd say it won't be 3D enabled ever, as only DLP projectors can be 3D enabled at present.

The JVC looks like a nice projector, and you obviosuly want Full HD, so the only projector I know of that might go anyway near to satisfying you would be the F10 AS3D even then it's only 1400x1050.

I think I'd stick with the JVC and wait for the 3D market to mature (if it ever does, though top directors like Cameron, Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Ridley Scott et al appear to be embracing it) .
