I currently have quite a good set up and I'm mortified that 3D is starting to come out now ( i just payed £££'s for the sony BDV-E300) now I am a massive Sony fan so when i get a tv it will undoubtably be Sony but the big question is when? i currently have the KDL-46W4500 but it has developed a line of dead pixels! im just thankfull I bought the optional 5yr warranty, I want to ask everyone should I wait untill bigger and better tvs come out and wait untill neerer the end of the warranty (I have about 2 yrs left) or should I get a new tv now and bask in the 3D glory? if I do get one I will use 1 of my PS3's which are getting a free firmware update later this month for video and put the audio through the BDV-E300.

Opinions please.

Regards Justin.

Hi, please read your terms of your warranty. I have personal experience that some manufacturers have descending terms. First two or three years are 100%, afther that period you will still have your warranty, but it will not be fully paid by the warranty. Example 4th and 5th year 50-50 for materials and/or workinghours.

Afther your check you can decide whats the ideal time to claim. If you can wait, wait.

Strictly speaking, you don't actually need a warranty - unless the agreement covers accidental damage, but your home contents insurance will also cover damage/accidents etc - because your statutory rights automatically cover you for up to 6 years after purchase should your TV etc develop a fault - and it's the retailer that's liable, not the manufacturer. If a TV expires within 6 years, then it's deemed 'not fit for purpose' according to Trading Standards/Consumer Direct (TS/CD) dictat.

For example, my 3-year-old Pana plasma recently developed a terminal fault: a thin but prominent green line down the centre of the screen. It needed a new panel, which cost c. £700 (+ labour). TS/CD advised me re the 6-year rule and, in short, my TV was fixed - and I paid now't.

Of course, there could be a problem if a retailer has ceased trading. However, if the TV was purchased with a credit card, then the credit card co assumes the liability. If you opt for an interest-free, 1-year deferred payment-type deal, then the finance co should/could be liable - check the contract and seek TS/CD's advice BEFORE you sign.

As for 3D TV, FWIW I'm firmly in the wait-and-see camp. Saw various 3D demos at Best Buy and was underwhelmed - a bit of extra depth-of-field, erratic PQ plus hideous and uncomfortable specs that appear to have been conceived with every expense spared. Might have another peep 2 years hence..?

Same here.

Recently got a 2D projector, based on the fact that there's little 3D content and none I'm really interested in, and any new 3D stuff would be over-priced and not as good compared to what they'll have in the next couple of years.

Plus, I'm not sure it will take off. And even if it does I think many won't want to upgrade so ossn, and will prefer to wait for a glasses-less option.

altough i fell 3d has a lot to grown and to evole im glad i have a 3d set hanging in my wall :)

i had a 6 years old lg non hd set and was wanting hd image (at least ) but as 3d is a reality ( in cause you dont realise it already) and while you are still struglling i already have it :):)

To tell you the truth .. i think 3d to be great still needs a few teaks ... and as far as i know samsung is realising firmware updates to improve settings .. so if now i have a reasnable 3d experience i hope in a few time to have a gvery good 3d experience ...

3d experience oncee in a while , cause 3d for me its a bonus ,, and i bonus that i could not experience in the 50v20 nor the 50g20 ..

Hugs and kisses for everyone (been drinking famous grouse :) )

I'd wait for 2nd/3rd generation products and stick with what you have now. I have a feeling that a couple of years down the road most if not all new midrange tv's will be 3d able. As they all can display conventional 2d it's not a question of whether to embrace the new format or not.

As to whether 3d is worth having, I take the same attitude as to great whopping surround systems ... if the telly is big enough in comparison, why not. On anything up to 46", probably not. The demo I saw was interesting but the 42 or 40" set it was playing on was way to small to really immerse myself in.

As always, my opinion only.

Thanks for all the replys guys (& Gals) i think im going to heed the majority and opt out of 3D for the time being, it was one of tose things, something new and shiny is out so jump on the band waggon, i was asking opinions because i jumped on the HD waggon early with only an HD ready set and the had to upgrade to Full HD and i can already ee that theres active and passive 3D, what if some of your mates come round??yur not going to spend £££££'s on buying an extra 5 sets of glasses for that odd occasion you have mates aroud are you? i think ill sit it out and wait for better and cheaper passive sets.

Thanks for all the replies.

There is point in future were the googles and 3d technology will be cheaper or even without googles as everyone wanted ..

I see as i tried to explain before i see the 3d experience just as a bonus ..

i enjoy 3d , but i dont want to watch it all day , or everyday .. but i want to have pleasure to see 3d movie once in a while just like i did when i went to the cinema to watch it .. Now i can do that in my home !

I think none of us could go everyday to the cinema to watch 3d movies/content..

This is my vision and a really apreciate 3d experience , if you dont and need a new set right now buy a 2d set

if you care about 3d and need to buy new set right now its better to consider the offer that is available right now , eventough you all know that is expensive , that needs to improve and it will be cheaper and in the feature wont need the glasses ..

If you care about 3d but dont really need a new set right now , hold your horses a while longer cause you probably will buy a better and cheaper 3d set ..

Thats progress , and thats the best advice i can give ..

Meanwhile as said before .. while youre are wating and criticising the 3d home pionears mine is on the wall were i have immerse myself into 3d content for the past month !

PS - i tilt my head wenever i want , even upsidedown i have 3d image (its a plasma :) )
