3D DVD requires 3D Receiver to work properly

I was thinking of buying a BluRay DVD player but was wondering if a 3D BluRay DVD player would be the way to go.

Then I wondered if the 3D BluRay DVD player must have a 3D capable receiver (Home Theatre) to process the video signal.

Can anyone please shed any light on this subject?

Thanks,

a 3d blu-ray player will also play normal , 2d blu-rays/dvds on a non 3dtv ..

but if you want to watch a 3d blu-ray disc on one , you will obviously need a 3dtv , so unless you are considering getting a 3dtv in the future , a normal , cheaper 2d bdp is your best bet ..

the non 3d sony bdp-s370 would be a good choice , around £130 i believe..

If you consider a 3D Bluray player a must, it is not necessary to have a compatable amp. All that is necessary is to connect the player direct to a 3D tv and use the amp for audio.

However early adopters of new technology pay very dearly. I would stay with 2D

i dont know whats wrong with me today , thats the second time ive completely misread a question

.. must be the weather..

anyways , if the op was to buy a panasonic 3d bdp , then there would be no need for a so called , 3d receiver , because the pannys have two hdmi outs , one for the tv and one for the receiver...

however , if he was to buy a 3d bdp from any other manufacturer then he would need a 3d receiver if he was wanting to use external sound...

if no external sound is required , then no receiver , 3d capable or not is needed..

From what I understand is that 3D requires HDMI 1.4 compliance.

So if you will pass through to your AV amplifier make sure it handles HDMI 1.4.

This will safeguard against incompatibility problems.

Yep. Hopefully other manufacturers of Blu Ray players will follow suit so people don't feel the need to scrap their "obsolete" v. 1.3 only receivers.

That's assuming you're interested in 3D in the first place. It's hardly revolutionised our viewing practices so far...
