Hi all,

I have been playing around with some settings trying to get 36 bit deep colour output on my lx-5090, the source is an lx-91 which is passed through a Rotel RSP-1570 via HDMI. The devices are connected by Black Rhodium high-speed Pearl 1.3b. I have high speed HDMI enabled on the lx-91, with the colour outpt set to auto.

Anybody have any ideas?

Unless you have an actual 'deep colour' source (Like a PS3) then you wont get what you want. You can convert 24 bit blurays into 36 bit if you like, but youd gain nothing but probably lose something in the conversion process

I had the same problem with my Pioneer LX-91 and Pioneer 428XD screen. The solution was to use two HDMI cables from the LX-91. Link an HDMI cable from the SUB output of the LX-91 directly to your tv and the other to your amp/receiver. LX-91 settings: HDMI MAIN; High Speed Transmission set to OFF and HDMI SUB; High Speed Transmission set to ON. This should sort out the 36bit output. Hope this helps...

Thanks, I was thinking about giving that a try but wanted to double check before unpluging everything.

Soooo ..... is the 36 bit output a bad thing then??

Only just bought a LX5090 and married it to a Pioneer BDP320. left as much at 'auto' as possible. did set high speed. Now get the 36 bit info pane when watching blu ray. should i disable this function or not?

If its outputting 36 bit then its clearly being converted as theres no such thing as a 36 bit bluray

What did you mean by 'high speed'?

Alienrik, in the BDP320 settings, you can enable an HDMI high speed link. No idea what the effect is though ...

If the display is saying 36 bit then, should I be looking to disable it in some way to avoid any unnecessary conversions taking place????

OR - should I just stop messing around and leave everything on 'auto'?

On the Pioneers HDMI high speed turns on deep colour.

I have been doing a fair bit of comparing deep colour on and off, and to my eyes the deep colour looks better. To me there is a noticable improvement in colour gradiantion, which is noticable on animated films.

I think the best thing to do is to try deep colour on/off and go with what you prefer.

My old PS3 fat USA version 60gb outputs 36bit colors all the time.

Even in the "dashboard" alike meny.

And my new PS3 slim 320gb does not... Why???

I had to buy a new one because "red light of death RLOD" issue twice..

I´m using the Legendary LX-6090H Kuro plasma
