Hi I want new speakers

I own the Naim XS - Naim DAC - U-serve-chord cables

Speakers are gone (MA rs6)

They were too boomy in my room

I can only manage to have 50cm space from rear wall, side walls 80cm.

What speakers should I be looking for?

budget is 1500-1750 pounds

cheers G.

You should definitely audition a pair of KEF R500's, (£1500), and if your budget will stretch the R700's, (£2000).

That said I got my R700's for £1800 just by asking the dealer nicely whether that was the best he could do on the price. Almost choked when he knock ed me 10% off without even a second's thought. Brand new and boxed. Not ex-demo or anything!

Worth looking at PMC. GB1i TB1i or one of the twenty series, I'm sure ex demo you could pick up something. Great bass quality without being boomy, my FB1is are only 20cm from the rear wall and sound great.

Spendor's A5 may be worth a listen as well as according to them, the 50cm you have available should be enough. If you can find the A6 used/ex-dem, they're even less fussy.

Thanks for the advice

some more info aout placement

speakers will be 50cm from wall (if speakers are 25 cm deep), so 75 cm from front of speaker to rear wall.

heart to heart the distance between speakers is 235 cm, heart of the speaker to ears is 275 cm. Distance from heart to side walls is 85cm.

I have enough space behind the listening position, about 175cm.

I have Spendor A6 and have them pretty close to the back wall well within your 50cms, in fact Spendor suggest minimum distance from the back wall of 20cms and 30cms from the side wall so well within your requirements. If you like the Spendor sound then no problems.

This morning I had a demo,

Spendor a6 - Naim XS - n-Dac -Serve, very nice synergy, the Spendor are a bit slow with rock music and the bass was not that thight as the Audiovector si3 Super. With more laid back music it was very pleasant.

PMC 23 more natural then Spendor, but i did not like the bass performance it was a little too much.

In my system:

1. Audiovector si3 Super - 5/5

2. Spendor a6 4/5

3. PMC 23 3/5
