I checked out this new Panasonic 42 inch today in Currys

http://www.weymouthhifi.co.uk/website/panasonic/2011/panasonic_txp42c3b.htm

Looks like they are going to be heavier, this 42 inch one is around 27kg

The 50 inch version is 35Kg

Could not really tell how good these ones were, did not get to hear the sound either.

Might pop into that Panasonic shop sometime, then again i might not.

The C3 range is the lowest-spec, entry level models - hence chunkiness. Name shared across both LCD and plasma, just to add confusion!

As I said, more details - and pics - to follow soon....

Main headlines so far - looks like the 37in plasma is no more; still no news of BBC iPlayer on Viera Connect

Hi Clare,

That link you have given is not working for me

Any chance of another one so i can have a quick look, thanks

Ah

I was hoping it was a return to better build, heavier tvs and bigger sound.

Clare,

Don't know if it helps but the BBC iPlayer has recently come to fruition via Freesat on my Panasonic tv. It wasn't available in December when I bought it.

Indeed - but curiously few of the 2011 line-up include Freesat (more in my blog to follow). Pretty sure BBC iPlayer will be on Viera Connect - Panasonic just can't confirm it yet. Whether it will be available as an upgrade to existing Viera Cast sets is another matter - again, more on this in my blog (which, realistically, considering we're still being shown around the new tech, is likely to be online tomorrow)

My blog will attempt to answer a lot of the strategic/FAQ stuff (eg what about floating blacks?), while my colleague Tom Parsons is busy bashing through endless product specs and pics

And motion issues with the plasmas?

From the specs - there doesnt seem to be freesat HD tuners in the VT30s? or am i missing it? Shame really if there isnt as its a nice option to have.. nice the smallers sizes are scheduled to be out earlier this year..

Andy Clough:Tom's updated Panasonic blog now has Blu-ray player pics and specs, as well as details of the 2011 TV range. Info on home cinema and soundbar systems to follow. Clickety

Sorry, that may have got lost in the spec-frenzy - we'll update now.

To confirm, as I have also done in the news story:

Panasonic's new DT, GT and VT ranges will all feature Freesat HD tuners;
all other models in the range (from the smallest set upwards) will
feature Freeview HD tuners (which the DT, GT and VT models will also
have).

We'll try, but they're not listed in the key specs info we've been given. Tom Parsons and I could attempt picking some up and having a 'guess the weight of the TV' competition?

Clare Newsome:...though we have got slightly different specs in UK - due to different tuners etc (and a UK dislike of certain stands/plinths, apparantly.)

Indeed, but hopefully should be informative enough for Herr Gel if he's thinking of taking down the china ducks and putting one of the new sets on the wall. Mind you, I guess we Brits could have gone for very very heavy tuners, in which case ignore all those specs, gel
