Hi,

I want to know if it is possible to use only one subwoofer for two zones. I am prepared to buy a receiver 7.2 channels and with two zones. In the living room there is a 5.1 and in my gardenroom 2.0. Can I use the subwoofer also for my 2.0 so it could be an 2.1?

Hope you people can help me...

I'm sure you mean you will have a separate subwoofer for the garden, right?

Nah, what he said was:

To which I'm pretty sure that the answer is NO! Sorry SvennosB, you will have to have two subwoofers. Unless you position the single subwoofer such that it booms into the living room AND into the garden simultaneously, in which case it won't be anything like audio fidelity.

Yes, that's what flummoxed me as well. Unless the OP wants to carry his subwoofer around......

Yep thank you kindly BigBoss, I took a screen save of my avatar which tells me that I have not been on the forum for four months and three weeks. I have however been reading most of the topics of interest to me, including your own gathering plans for your new house and projector! I have been trying to release a pension fund so that I can buy some new kit. I'll leave you to guess what type of item I particularly want, but my old university employer is taking longer to release information and my pension funds than I had thought. So I'll just have to wait and chug along for the time being with only the four plasma TVs (ranging from 42" to 64") each with surround sound system (ranging from 5.2 to 11.1), sob!

Assuming your "gardenroom" leads into the living room in an open plan style, then it's quite possible and fidelity will be just fine so long as the crossover is fairly low, thus avoiding sub-bass directionality problems.

I did exactly the same thing in our last house, where our second living room was essentially part of the same big area as where I had my office/PC. I placed the subwoofer fairly central and used a sub-out for one system and the speaker terminals for the other.

Of course you may end up with placement not being ideal for either.

Depending on how much you have to spend mind you, I'd probably ditch the idea and buy a second sub instead and run it from the speaker terminals. Especially as you say you're willing to buy a new receiver.

It might be an idea to post details of what you currently have, maybe an image of the room layout and positions, and an explanation of exactly what you're trying to achieve...

That sounds like a plan for the OP!
