My parents have asked me to source them out the best 40/42" tv i can get for £500 there may be abit of flex in the budget but not much. They currently have a basic dvd and a tompson freeview twin tuner connected so a quality onboard tuner is very important, future wise i guess they could possibly have a freeview HD twin tuner and an upscaling dvd but nothing more. I was thinking about the TX-P42X20B but is there anything better about ?

bigboss:The LG options I have given are plasmas. But I think, the Panasonic X20 may be better than them. Do a side by side comparison if you can.

Think you've linked the wrong ones as all 3 sets are lcd mate

You are right (did not actually check the links...)
Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with UK suppliers, so you will have to search for yourself.

I still believe the Panasonic TX-P42X20 is the best optian with your budget.
