Just wondering if you have any processing modes or is the Yamaha working in "PURE" type mode?

I also can't help but think that the cabling could be one of the main problems with the harsh treble - those silver cables while being award winners will no doubt contribute to the problem. You could borrow some more laid back cables from a dealer to experiment or even buy some Gale cable from Richer Sounds.

What interconnect are you using between the CD and the Yamaha - digital I presume to make use of the DAC in the Yamaha?

Your room doesn't sound too bad. All that furry carpet should tone things down a fair bit.

In my opinion MA silver range speakers don't work with Cyrus kit (from own experience) but have heard of many GS owners who are happy with their Cyrus / MA combos.

Also, if thinking of upgrading the CD player consider how much of your music is stored digitally as a Computer streaming lossless bit perfect music to a DAC over a home network could be a superior, more convenient and longer term solution.

I'm coming a bit late into this thread but to use your AV amplifier with those speakers is certainly not a good idea. Plinius works well with the larger Gold series which I like. Your funds don't permit that, unless you can source an older one s/h.

It may be worth to try Roksan's new Kandy integrated, which I have here at the moment, though the Kaspian is within your budget too but I have'nt heard that. It makes good music with some cheaper MA's which have a rather monochromatic treble but somehow it does'nt seem to matter to greatly. Good control, bass and drive but more important its cohesive and clear. Best of luck.

Your problem is not your speakers, clearly its the amp and then the CD. And yes, you will hear a "night and day" difference if you upgrade these. An AV amp (in this price range) is simply not going to do the job.

Like you, I bought a second hand pair of GS20s, and found that they were not properly run in. But they sounded wonderful straight up - the problems you describe go well beyond the small but real gain from running them in.

Upgrading your cables and using a mains conditioner would, I believe, produce almost insignificant returns, until you buy a decent amp and CD player. At that point, you will be in a position to see what a difference proper cables and a decent power supply make.

well all I can say is that I have auditioned these speakers this apfternoon for the second time alongside a pair of pmc fb1's and a pair of KEF's. THE GS20s won hands dowqn for me. They werepartnered with a meridian pre/power combination and they just filled the room up!

What cables are you using BTW?
