Tannoy Revolution xt6f vs. KEF R500

I understand the theory, the drivers in the R300 are larger and can shift more air, but the R500 having rear ports, placing closer to the wall could somewhat compensate for that? May lose a bit of imaging due to that perhaps. It also has two bass drivers, and a D'appolito configuration, which...

    Integrated Amp for KEF Q300

Why not with the A85 (I assume the Arcam Diva A85) ? Just curious, I am about to audition it's bigger brother the R500 with that amp, just curious as to your findings/experiences. My mileage may differ of course. I realise these are from another range, but do have a basic familiar sound due to...

Tannoy Revolution xt6f vs. KEF R500

I would, but they are too big for my listening room, I need something more slender, the XT6F just about fit, the R500 do too. It's the width that is the problem, height and depth not so much.

Tannoy Revolution xt6f vs. KEF R500

Which group test was this (what issue),as I'd be interested to read it. I am still looking for a new pair of floor standers, and both the R500 and XT 6F are amongst speakers I'd like to try. (my list has grown , the more I've discovered :-) ).

I guess he would be, but it was still interesting.

    Cambridge Audio SX-50 VS Q Acoustic 2010i.

The Denon PMA-520 is a great amplifier, good value for money. I've had the original version and it lasted over 28 years before it finally 'retired'... Here's an image of the first series: http://en.audiofanzine.com/hifi-amplifier/denon/PMA-520/medias/pictures/a.play,m.448956.html The second...

    Need advice for new hi-fi

I was just about to say that the cambridge & BW685 S2 combo is a very nice musical system, and would be my choice too. As for expensive power cables, don't do it at this price. Unless you have a lot of interference on your power where you live, you might want to get an extension cable with a...

Valve Amps - The Good, The Bad, The Fat.

You could also consider these, they are available 'build' and as kits. They also look pretty good, it's a clean, understated website, which gives me more confidence than the 'shouty one' the OP refers to. In fact, I saw it and it put me right off. So for an reasonably affordable valve amp...

Thanks for the tip. I'll have a look at those too. Gulliford it is indeed.

    Rega RX3 floorstanding speakers

I've recently discovered the Rega RX3 on the interweb, and seems an attractive, nicely build floorstander that appears room friendly, flexible positioning, and there are a few reviews around that basically praise it for being very musical. It triggered my interest enough to find a dealer and go...

Purchasing Advice: Arcam FJM series and KEF LS50

Not sure if the newer Arcam have the same scaling as the older series, but I find that my Arcam Diva A85 needs to be turned up to 30 or above to get any volume. I don't mind that, there is quite a range on the dail and therefore is nice and controlled, unlike many rivals from the orient where...

In doubt between Monitor Audio Bronze 2, Dali Zensor 3 and Q Acoustics Concept 20.

On an amp, then often you'll need to be looking at AV amps which have connections for multiple speakers incl (passive) subs, or a good stereo amp that has an additional set of 'pre amp outs' to go to an active sub. I'm not certain, but I think conventional stereo amps with a sub out are fairly...

In doubt between Monitor Audio Bronze 2, Dali Zensor 3 and Q Acoustics Concept 20.

I'm not convinced that at a lower budget , active speakers as such an improvement over passive. (active have build in amplifiers, passive need a seperate amp). Active amps are connected with a long RCA type lead instead of a traditional speaker cable, and will need a power supply socket near...

    REAL budget system

wasn't that the brand sold by Argos? I seem to remember them with a green little LCD showing the source etc.. They were ok for the money. I also had some JPW speakers in the past, their smallest one at the time (1992 ish) was one of the best compact speakers around, and took some beating. I'm...
