    CD resolution

I found the following on another forum, written by an engineer in the hi-fi industry, about cd reading errors, and other interesting information, little bit off-topic but very much worth sharing. Beware when reading, it was a reponse on another forum: The data on a CD is stored with extra...

I really thought this was a spoof

I intended to quote some passages from the website to make my point. I quickly realized that this whole page is full of extraordinary claims, so I just link to the page: http://www.russandrews.com/eu/better-sound-from-your-hi-fi/ Though, we might always disagree on what is extraordinary.

I really thought this was a spoof

I really do get your point. However, we are talking about technical products, which are claimed to do things that go against every scientific paper published on the subject by either IEEE or AES. It is definitely worth looking into then. The following quote comes from religion discussion, but...

I really thought this was a spoof

Actually, I disagree. "What Hi-Fi" refers to high fidelity, in this case high fidelity audio equipment, which is a purely scientific/engineering endeavour (the designers and manufacturers are in the core engineers, not musicians). Talking music is also fine of course, but the title of the forum...

    Hi Res files

When is someone considered a trained listener?

    Hi Res files

I failed that one too, and most people I know fail the test. I found it rather odd that they tried to advertise with this test. I also found a more elaborate test that requires you to do 20 trials for each track, to get any relevant results.

Speakers and cables - big improvements or not?

If you really want to do this right, you could take a saturday to bring your speakers along to the dealer, its a bit of a hassle, but it might lead you to a more sure and better decision for you.

    AV Receiver for just music?

Go for AV receiver, in general, you will not be able to discern an AV receiver from an integrated amp, despite what people say. Test blind, you will find out. AV receivers give more value for money because of the mass production, and all types are based on eachother etc. So you get more per...

    The effects of a pre-amp and power-amp

Not saying all amplifiers, but the ones I tested, around the 1000 Euro mark, decently built, level matched and blind, I could not distinguish between them. Oh, and also could not distinguish between the integrated and AV receiver (around the same price tag). Then when investigating their...

    The effects of a pre-amp and power-amp

I think the terms you mentioned come from expectation bias. I have not succeeded in identifying them blind, though I was able to identify sighted.

3.1 Hi-Fi Sound; How do I achieve it?

But... what kind of splitter cable to use? XLR, RCA, smooth warm sounding, or bright sounding, OFC or silver, with or without fairy dust.....surely the type of cable used will determine if it will sound excellent or rubbish..... too many options.....

New Cambridge CXA60 vs second hand Cyrus 6/8 XPD/DAC

I think the CXA60 is a beautiful looking integrated amp with everything you could wish for at that price. From previous experiences it probably has more power than the specs would make you think.
