Zepplin Air / Airplay Query

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section, but here goes anyway.

Does the Zepplin Air require a wifi network to stream music wirelessly? For that matter, can the Airplay stream music from device to the Zepplin Air or any other with Airplay directly, without the need for a network?

The Zeppelin Air requires wi-Fi - as does Apple AirPlay generally.

There are audio alternatives ( Geneva; Arcam; JBL) that don't need a wireless network, but they typically demand a Kleer dongle or use Bluetooth connectivity.

More wireless solutions on way, though...
