Interesting to note that Hawkwind were in a way, pioneers of Punk...
Interesting that no-one has come back on this....
The Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls definitely, Hawkwind, no. Hippies!

I love Hawkwind but they had no influence on punk what so ever. Lemmy had a huge influence on punk merging with metal after being kicked out of Hawkwind for doing to many drugs.

THE BIRTH...punk was born in Detroit

MC5 - Kick Out The Jams

The Stooges - Raw Power

THE MOVEMENT

Ramones - Road To Ruin

Clash - Enough Rope & London Calling (the highwater mark for the movement)

Patti Smith - Horses

Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady

Sex Pistols - Nevermind

THE MAINSTREAM

Nirvana - Nevermind (the next highwater mark)

Greenday - American Idiot (moments of which (Holiday) are worthy of Clash flag bearers)
