Yamaha Range of AC Receiver New Models

Having been looking around for sometime I've seen a lot of last years Yamaha AC Receivers have been heavily reduced, some almost half price

RX-A810, RX-A1010, RX-A2010 and RX-A3010. Does anyone know when Yamaha will be bring out their next lot of Receivers out? Are the current models likely to be reduced?

I'm looking to buy a RX-A1020, and wondering to buy now, or wait for whenever the latest models come out and see if I can get one at a decent discount.

In your last post u were looking for speakers to match a2010. U didnt respond? Did u get some? I suggest u post budget, room size etc for some options. 2.0, 2.1, 5.1?? Unless a new rc has important features then an end of range unit will always be better value ofcourse.

Sorry for not replying, to tell you the truth, just can't make my mind up. I've more or less settled on the Yamaha RX-A1020, hoping I can get one a little cheaper then the £849 that I've seen. As for speakers, I was looking at a B&W MT-50 set up. I had a demo, they sounded great while watching blu-rays. But came up short while listened to music. And as the system will be my main source of music I'd like something half decent. I have a demo in the week for B&W 684, B&W CM1's, both with M1 centre and rear channels. Might also look at Monitor Audio Bronze BX5's

What speakers have you got?! If the RX-A1020 and the 2020 are close performance wise to the older RX-A1010 and 2010 I must say, if you can't afford the RX-A2020 you should go for the RX-A2010 instead of the newer RX-A1020 unless you have entry level speakers. I had both the RX-A1010 and the 2010 powering my fronts (Focal 816WSE) and the difference between the two is staggering! On the other hand I know people who went from the RX-A2010 to the 3010 and felt the difference was minimal. If you have a let's say, £750-£1500 pair of speakers they could easily end up sounding not much better than a pair of £500 floorstanders.

Hi,

Currently I don't have any, having a demo with some B&W CM1's, 684's and Monitor Audio Bronze BX5's sometime this week. I want a receiver with airplay, hence this years models.

With the CM1 and the BX5 (seeing that you really want the Airplay feature) I think you would be better off with theMarantz SR7005 if you can't afford the RX-A2020. I found the Marantz a lot better than the RX-X1010 as long as you don't pair it with some warmish sounding speakers like I did. The only advantage the Yamaha has is that you can hardly go wrong when buying the speakers to go with it. But if you pick the the right speakers the Marantz with movies especially will knock your socks off!

I would definitely pick the CM1s over the other speakers but what made you shortlist those 3? I personally find most B&W speakers a bit overpriced taking into consideration their performance. I would prefer (bias but many people who heard both seem to agree) a Focal standmounter to the B&W. You can pick a pair of 806V second hand for under £300 or the 807V or 806WSE for under £500 if you don't mind buying second hand of course. I'm a sucker for Focal speakers tbh... they are such a balanced sounding speaker. I had the BX5 before and they can sound very shrill with some tracks so I definitely be careful partnering those.

As a newby I'm going into this ears open, I'm getting advice left, right and centre, so just a little confused!!!. I know the Yamaha receivers get great reveiws, 5 stars by WHF for the 1020, plus I demo'd one and was impressed. As for the speaker choice, that mainly comes from local shops, RS and SO's, neither of which sell your focals. I prefer the apperance of floor standers, but my budget of around £650 doesn't seem to buy much.......from what I'm being told. I also get the impression from a recent visit to SO's, that they don't really want to demo unless they can smell the £££ in my wallet. I'd love to find a shop where someone will spend time with me, explain things and demo lot's of speakers etc. Do these places exist?

When I was shopping for my AV kit, I initially had no idea about home cinema and what budget to set. Andrew in Sevenoaks Sheffield spoke to me for more than an hour and arranged a demo as well. I then returned after a few weeks with a set budget, & after auditioning various equipments, decided on my kit.

I think a lot of specialist AV dealers will offer good impartial advice, and arrange demos. You have to show a lot of interest, and don't start bargaining at the outset.

Finally done it, I'm now a proud owner of a shinny new RX-A1020. Decided to get it before the Sevenoaks sale ended. Thanks to the very helpfull chaps at So's, and to everyones advice on here. Now to pick some speakers.

Hope that your new RX-A1020 isn't too tinny, to rhyme with shinny ...! But seriously, did you get it for less than the £849 that you had seen earlier?

Yes, £849. Looked all over the net, best price I could find. All last years models seem to have sold out now, and the lack of airplay was a put off. I couldn't justify the extra £500 for the 2020, so went with the 1020. Considering when I first started looking I was thinking of buying the RX-V473, i think I've ended up with a decent bit of kit.
