Hi, can anybody comment on the musical ability of the Avantage RX-A3010. I am potentially looking for this to replace my musical fidelity pre-amp and wondered what the comparison would be?
There are very few, if any, AV receivers that are as musical as a good 2-channel pre-amplifier. For an equivalent price, you could look a the Audiolab 8200AP processor and a suitable power amplifier, which will outperform the pre-amp section of any AV receiver.
I'd certainly give the Yamaha a spin. Contemporary AV receivers are well up there, offer far more than their two channel breathren and now sound excellent too. You'd be a mug not to try some out. See also Onkyo's range as well.

The Aventage RX-A3010 has (amongst its other qualities) a highly detailed, rich, fast, dynamic and full bodied presentation (similar to the MF pre amp). Although good however I don't believe the pre amplication section of the Aventage RX-A3010 will ultimately have the overall quality level of the X-P1000. Having said this it wouldn't surprise me if the pre amplficaton performance of the Aventage RX-A3010 was not far off the X-p1000 either.
Fwiw, ATC's SCM100ASL Profesional monitors, C3C Active, C6 - SCM0.1/15 and a Plinius Odean are some of the components i've used to test the pre amplifcation stage of the Aventage RX-A3010.
Thanks for the comments guys, I currently run my A/V left and right out into my MF AUX and use that to manage front channels and I wanted to cut down on any effect that running a second pre might have on the sound.
Having demo'd I have come to the conclusion that the MF Pre-Amp for music source is much better that the Yammy3010 (although in fairness the Yammy did sound v good) My MF just has the edge and sound more like like for music.
So back to the drawing board and my option looks like Yammy 3010 outsourcing to my MF pre-amp Aux as I have set up now. Or a true A/V pre-amp and two more offboard amps for my centre and rears.
Not much on the feature count but Audiolab's new 8200AP AV processor performs superbly with music and movie soundtracks :rockout: Imo, the 8200AP is the best 8200 Series product yet 🙂

Btw, if you're going to go down the route of having a dedicated AV processor then for power amps i'll recommend seeking out the same MF power amps so as to maintain the same balance.
