About 6 months ago I purchased a Yamaha rvx1065 amp which has been a big improvement over my old htr5640. I'm now wondering if I should also get some other speakers to improve things further.

My current speakers are a Mission M70 surround package (4 x M70 and a M7C1i) but I'm on a tight budget and would be looking to go for some older (cheaper) speakers.

I have a Mordaunt Short 905C centre available so would the 902 be a big improvement on what I have for front duty?

Or do you have any other recommendations?

Current uses are approx gaming 40%, movies 30%, music 30%

Music types are varied from AC/DC to Norah Jones

Room size 3.5x4m

Budget is about £200 max for some fronts and a centre.

I'd use the budget you have for a good pair of used fronts and use your existing Mission a little while longer - it'll cope. That way, you'll end up with better fronts, and when the time comes, a better centre too.
Look around for floorstanders that were about £400-500 3 or 4 years ago, like the KEF iQ5se's, Acoustic Energy Neo 3's, or the Monitor Audio BR5's - you should get these for your budget. It'd be highly recommended to get the matching centre speaker for whichever fronts you get. The front three produce the majority of what you'll hear during a film, so it's important these speakers aren't skimped on or compromised. You could pick up some Mission M33's or M34's within your budget if you want to stick to Mission, but these won't quite be as good as the others I've mentioned.

Thanks very much for your suggestions I will look into those.

Is there any mileage in trying to find some MS906 to go with the 905 centre or would these be inferior to your recommendations?

I may have a chance to get some Monitor audio RS1, any opinions on whether the Monitor Audio RS1 would go well with my receiver?

Cheers

Hi Neil1978

Yes, RS1's would work very well with the RX-V-1065  If you are going to go for these then keep a look out for an RX-LCR so as the front three are tonally matched.

All the best

Thanks for your advise, I took the plunge and got a pair of RS1's and an RSLCR. Looking forward getting them delivered and having a listen.
