XBOX 360 - alternative to Sonos?

Does anyone have any experience or information for using an XBOX 360 to play music from a NAS? Is it even possible?

I am aware of XBMC and the remote app, but do not know if there are any connectivity issues.

No comparison whatsoever Im afraid. Even as a Windows Media Center extender, while its a nice interface, the whole experience is dependant on network quality and your remote PC being "awake".

Apple TV for interface is the best I have used, and believe me Ive gone through many media devices, (XBOX, XBOX 360, PS3, WDTv) and the Apple for me, offers the best media experience, be it music, movies or photos.

A friend has a Sonos, and for music that is truly awesome, especially when using an iPad as a remote.

the best thing about sonos is the controller ive seen it in a shop and would be guted to have to use a ipad but a an iphone is shocking and small so something in the middle would be ok. i would like to be browsing or on emails while selecting music so i think a dedicated controller is always best. why dont people want a computer on all the time is beyond me. i have a £500 laptop so its not even halfway up the ladder. even a bad laptop when idle with sleep timer turned off so it sits there just on letting a server run on it will use less that 200w so if you pay around 12p kw/h. say you come in from work at 4pm and leave it on till 1am each day thats 45hours then say another 48 for the weekend lets round that up to 90hours thats around £2.50 tops a week at worst so for around £10 tops a month and for me to have a 320gb laptop sitting by my all hifi is a must and a bargin.

Ok, I think the point has been missed somewhat.

The Sonos is around £250 and a controller of some description (my thinking is a 7" Android tablet) is going to be had for around £120.

Good as the Sonos might be, right now I don't have that sort of money, so there is a possibility of using an XBOX with XBMC to play files from my NAS instead. Cost is around £80 vs £370 for the Sonos kit and has the benefit of playing most disc types. There are my reasons.

The question is, does anyone really know how the XBOX can be used with a NAS, if at all? The only dampner on the plan would be if the XBOX was too noisy, but it's not going to out do my Pc for noise.

@ The LHC, that's one of the very good reasons for a NAS fed system.

If ur NAS has a dlna or upnp media server on it then yes u can.
