Hi,

Tried searching for this but can't get a straight answer.

If I went for a 3D blu ray player do I need a 1.4 HDMI cable ?

My current cable is a Chord 1.3a, woukld this work ?

Direct connection to the TV,not routed through an amp.

Thank you.

The Chord should work fine - there's no such thing as a 1.4 cable (or indeed a 1.3 cable any more) as HDMI cables use different terminology from HDMI ports nowadays (see here). The Chord will be rated High Speed and should therefore be able to pass 3D just fine.

The cable I have is the Chord silver plus 1.3 (quite an old cable)

Enven though it doesn't say high speed on the box are you saying this would still be OK.

How long is it?

Essentially I'm saying it should be okay - I believe this cable was produced before the new certifications were in place so this is why it doesn't say High Speed on the box, but because Chord engineer a lot of overhead in their HDMI cables (in terms of bandwidth capability), I'd be amazed if it didn't work assuming it's one of the shorter cables (i.e. less than 5m). And even the longer ones probably will!

It's 1.5M long.

I suppose the thing to do is try it and see once I get the new player.

Hopefully it will be fine.

Appreciate the help,thanks.

Having been conned by a Comet salesman into buying a vastly overpriced 1 metre Monster cable that wasn't any better than some cheap, custom made cable I ordered from the Internet, I would think twice about shelling out for some exotic gold-plated, OFC, Uni-directional HDMI cable that costs £1000.
