Can anyone tell me if a DAC added to a PS3 would make it sound better?

Would the DAC added to a PS3 which is then added to a A/V amp make the music and/or games played sound better?

jackandy, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come in on this, but I've tried connecting the PS3 via a DAC to an audio amp and was disappointed.ÿ

Have you connected the PS3 to the optical in of your AV amp? That should make things better, but bear in mind A/V amps are poor with music.ÿ

I connect my PS3 via optical cable to my DAC to play music DVDs/BluRays and it sounds really good.

However, with my DAC as the fulcrum for comparing music from three different sources, I would rank as follows:

1) Lossless files streamed from the Mac to DAC
2) CD playback via DAC
3) PS3 playing music DVD or DVD audio discs* via DAC

* I've only played the audio DVDs that have come with the last few Neil Young albums. Not quite sure what format the PS3 reads here.

Previously I would never really consider using my PS3 for any music playback but with the DAC into the equation it's very good. But not my primary source.

That's exactly what I found. But, since you're using an AV receiver, I'd use the DAC in that. Sound quality of AV receivers don't justify purchasing an external DAC
