Sad news for anyone who has enjoyed the music of Barclay James Harvest over the years. Woolly Wolstenholme passed away yesterday after a battle with mental illness. Woolly was central to the sound of the band's classic albums on both the Harvest and Polydor labels until his departure after 'XII' in 1979, and had an incredible revival of his music-making when he joined forces with band-mate John Lees in John Lees' Barclay James Harvest some 20 years later. He performed and recorded with the band over the last decade of his life and also in that time made 3 superb albums with his band Maestoso. He continued to play a proper Mellotron at live gigs and contributed some superb vocals, keyboard playing and songwriting over a 40 year period. A book of condolences is open at the John Lees' Barclay James Harvest website - www.barclayjamesharvest.com - and more information about Woolly's wonderful music making can also be found there.
